With Cristie Kerr’s 12-stroke win at the LPGA Championships last Sunday, it’s official Cristie is ranked No. 1.  Kerr led all four rounds during the championships and took over the No. 1 spot from Japan’s Ai Miyazato who only held the top spot for one week.  What an amazing performance – I still can’t believe Cristie won by 12 strokes!

“It’s been such an amazing week,” Kerr said. “To play here well on a golf course this tough and to win by that many shots in a major championship — that’s just unreal.”

Kerr is the first American to win the LPGA Championship since Juli Inkster in 2000. She becomes only the fifth player to hold the No. 1 spot since the rankings were introduced in 2006.

“It’s a dream performance,” Kerr said. “It’s like you wake up or you dream — I can’t even speak right now. Winning by two or three is great, but winning by 12 shots is ridiculous. It’s obscene.”

Congratulations Cristie!

Ai Miyazato takes over the Rolex Rankings as the #1 LPGA golfer with her win at the ShopRite Classic 2010!  “When I started playing in the States, that’s when I really started thinking about being No. 1,” Miyazato said. “That became a dream of mine, especially watching Annika and Lorena play. Now that I am No. 1, I still can’t believe it, but I do feel very comfortable with it.”

Also at the ShopRite:

15-year-old Alexis Thompson made her pro debut – America’s latest golfing phenom!

And Paula Creamer returned to the tour after her thumb surgery and played very well – she finished 7th, at -10.  “I take some positives out of this,” said Creamer, who shot a 71. “To have a chance to win on Sunday and to get those nerves out, to get back in that competitive mode on the last day is something that I would have been grateful for if somebody told me last week. You know I didn’t win, but I played great.

This week is the LPGA Championships in Pittsford, NY!

Pink Panther Returns!

by admin on June 14, 2010

Paula Creamer (aka the Pink Panther) will return to play this week at the ShopRite LPGA Classic - June 18-20, 2010 at Seaview (A Dolce Resort) in Galloway, New Jersey. She announced her return on her Twitter accountbut it’s never “official” until the event starts on Friday – so let’s hope she can return and get back into the “swing of things”!  Paula has been out with a thumb injury since the season opened in Thailand.

Paula posted some pretty cool pictures on Twitter photo today – while filming a commercial for her sponsor Ricoh.  She’s in NYC – at East 51st and Park Avenue to be exact — a pink golfer girl in NYC way to represent!

Monday finish for State Farm Classic

by admin on June 13, 2010

With dark skies looking - Natalie posted this picture on her Twitpic account.

Weather problems has forced the fourth round of the State Farm Classic 2010 to a Monday finish.  The third round on Saturday was delayed by thunderstorms and rain – with that round being completed on early Sunday.  Once the fourth round got underway on Sunday the play was suspended again – and after a 4 hour rain delay, officials finally decided to move play to Monday with Anna Nordqvist and Cristie Kerr sharing the lead at 20- under par.  During the delay, not much information was posted on either State Farm’s Facebook page or the LPGA website – but Natalie Gulbis posted some pictures via her Twitpic page which showed the gloomy dark sky over the Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield, IL – along with a second picture posted that shows her hanging out with fellow golf girls Christie, and Morgan at the clubhouse.  I’d love to see Christie win!

#1 LPGA Golfer misses State Farm Classic

by admin on June 11, 2010

j.shinJiyai Shin, the #1 player in the Rolex Women’s Rankings, had to withdrawn from the LPGA State Farm Classic on Wednesday morning to undergo emergency surgery on her appendix!  Which makes you wonder if she will recover in time to play the 2nd major of the year the LPGA Championships in two weeks.  Ai Miyazato is on her heels in the rankings, but as of day two of the State Farm Classic — Ai may not make the cut to the weekend unless she shoots a very low score today!  (On Day 1 Ai shot a 72 and on Day 2 she is at about 117 105 on the overall list). I miss Lorena on the tour, but would really like to see Ai at the top of the rankings this year!

Ai M

Cristie Kerr shot at 67 on day 1 and 2 – which keeps her in the top ten.  Go Cristie!

2010 State Farm Classic Preview

by admin on June 7, 2010

state farm classicThe 2010 LPGA State Farm Classic starts this week – Thursday, June 9 through June 12, 2010.  The defeating champion is In-Kyung Kim and the event will be held at the Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield, Illinois.  Paula Creamer will be missing from the playing field since her injured thumb is still not 100%.  True LPGA fans will be missing Lorena Ochoa this week, I still can’t believe she retired in the middle of a golf season.  Here’s the list of the final field.

The field is still subject to change, but the final list includes the top 10 on the tour money list, 49 of the top 50 and 98 of the top 100. It also includes the top 10 on the latest Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.

If you want to see the rest of the golfers at the State Farm Classic in 2010, you won’t be able to see them live on TV. The Golf Channel is putting the tournament on tape-delay.  I always feel when they put a LPGA event on tape delay it’s their way of saying it’s not important.

But according to Keith Allo, vice president of programming for the Golf Channel, a tournament that’s shown on a tape-delay basis actually may be seen by more television viewers than if it were shown live. “A lot of people will say, ‘If it’s not live, it’s not a big event,’ ” Allo said. “But the idea is to try to put the best stuff in a prime-time window. That’s what they try to do with the Olympics.  “You want to get as many people to see as many events as possible. We try to do that every week, and every week is different. We’ve worked with the LPGA tour on this, and we’re trying to maximize the exposure for them.”

The Golf Channel, in the first of a new 10- year agreement with the LPGA as the tour’s exclusive cable network, is making the State Farm Classic one of seven LPGA events to be shown entirely on a tape-delay basis this year.

Three other tournaments have a combination of live and taped coverage. But five of those seven all-tape-delay events have been or will be played overseas. They include LPGA tournaments in Thailand, Singapore, France and South Korea.

Hmmm I disagree!  How many PGA events are tape delayed this year?   Why not show the event LIVE and tape delayed — seems like the best solution to me!

Nicole Hage's "Girlie Golf" Photo Shoot

by admin on June 5, 2010

nicole hageLPGA golfer Nicole Hage recently did a photo shoot with her new tour sponsor SouthernLINC Wireless.  Super cute photos of Nicole, I especially like the photo in her alum Auburn University shirt!  Nicole will be playing next week at the LPGA State Farm Classic, June 10-13, 2010 at the Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield, IL.

“SouthernLINC Wireless is pleased to increase its commitment to professional golf by supporting one of its most promising young players,” said Julie Pigott, vice president of marketing and customer support for SouthernLINC Wireless. “As an Auburn University alumna, Nicole Hage has strong ties to the state of Alabama, and we invite our SouthernLINC Wireless customers and community neighbors to come out and support her at the Mobile and Prattville LPGA Tour events.”

The 2010 season marks Hage’s first year on the LPGA Tour with Tournament Division Membership priority status in category No. 11, which she was granted following a ninth-place finish at Qualifying School in December 2009. [click to continue…]

Kirsten’s Awesome Quest Interview

by admin on June 3, 2010

Kirsten standing near the Whitney Oak tree on the ninth hole at her favorite course!

I’d like to introduce you to a truly “awesome golf girl” Kirsten Lewis who resides in Northern California.  I met Kirsten back in January 2010, and had the honor to golf with her recently for an EWGA event.  She’s a fantastic golfer, and an inspiring person to be around.  I learned a few tips and tricks from her in just one round of 9 holes.  That’s what supporting women’s golf does – it inspires you to achieve your golf goals, and introduces others into the sport.  Perfect timing – June is American Express Women’s Golf Month. Play Golf America. Bring a Friend and have fun during American Express Women’s Golf Month. June is a celebration of golf as a yearlong sport and recreation for women.  Here’s my interview with Kirsten:

What is Kirsten’s Awesome Quest?  When did you begin this quest and what is the inspiration behind it?
My awesome quest is a personal quest to become a top golf athlete (amateur) from just beginning in the sport 3 years ago.  It is my belief that people can accomplish so much more including their personal dreams…and through mental inspiration, much self development (huge self belief and belief in the power of human potential), solid training and a bit of work…I should be able to accomplish amazing things! Including my personal dream of becoming a champion athlete in this sport.  To me a champion has many meanings – one being playing against top amateurs and coming out strong.

My first goal is to become a single digit and then scratch golfer.  This will then bring me to the qualifying index for entering into amateur qualifiers for National Amateur championship Majors and State Championships.   Also, one of my BIG goals in sharing my quest and embarking on my quest is to inspire others to follow their dreams and just Go For It!! Francella wins HSBC LPGA Brasil Cup 2010

by admin on May 31, 2010

HSBC GolfMeaghan Francella wins the HSBC LPGA Brasil Cup 2010 over Mariajo Uribe in a six-hole, sudden death playoff on May 30, 2010.  How frustrating for the LPGA golf fans  (and me too!) – the event wasn’t televised, and the only way to monitor the scores was to visit the HSBC website.  No scores were posted on the LPGA, PGA, or Golf Channel scoreboards.  It was almost like it didn’t happen?  Sure it was only a 2-day exhibition, but it’s still a LPGA event!!!  I don’t get it? What can I say I’m still bitter over why Lorena Ochoa’s retirement from golf was never televised or recorded either.  Grrrrrrrrr. (end of Rant).

Meaghan Francella proudly shows off her trophy after winning the HSBC.

Nice to see Mariajo Uribe make a great run at the HSBC tournament.  2010 is Mariajo’s rookie year on the tour – see below a few interview questions LPGA.com asked her after a tough loss: [click to continue…]
