Ochoa ADT Queen of the Greens!

by admin on November 19, 2007

Lorena wins the ADT Championships with a cool million-dollar prize. It was a great golf tournament to watch especially with the different format. But I have a beef with the coverage of the tournament. It’s the final LPGA tournament of the year, it’s considered the championships why isn’t live or only time delayed by a couple hours? Here in CA they didn’t broadcast it on TV until noon. By that point it was pretty clear who was winning. I watched the live scores from LPGA website, and yelled at my computer as I saw everyone else get eaten up by the course. Lorena kept getting more birdies, and everyone else kept dropping down. For this tournament I wasn’t really routing for Lorena – she already won over $3M this year – let someone else win some major money! I was routing for Natalie (local Sacramento girl) and she was so close but it was not to be… Natalie took 2nd place and won $100K that’s only $50K less than what Paula won at the Mitchell Company tournament last week. It got really interesting on the 17th hole when Lorena double bogey the hole, while Natalie made a birdie cutting the lead to just one. On the 18th Lorena didn’t dwell on the last hole and with 161 yards to the pin she hit an unbelievable shot that rolled a couple yards from the hole. In the end I’m happy for Lorena she outplayed everyone and showed what a true champion she is why she won so many tournaments in 2007.

2008 LPGA Schedule Announced

by admin on November 15, 2007

The LPGA announced the 2008 schedule today. They added more events from last year and more prize money! Okay the first thing I did was to check if The Mitchell Company Tournament of Champions was still on the schedule and did they increase the lousy $150K prize money for next year, and guess what it’s gone! Zippo. It’s not on the schedule for next year! Lorena Ochoa has her own tournament now in the same timeframe. The Lorena Ochoa Invitation will be played in her hometown of Guadalajara, Mexico, November 13 -16, 2008. This is great news for Lorena and her hometown fans!

Celebrity Women Golfers

by admin on November 14, 2007

What does Wisteria Lane and Women’s Golf have in common? Well according to Callaway Golf, it’s Gabrielle Solis (aka Eva Longoria). Yes, Ms. Eva is the ambassador for Callaway’s Golf Foundation – Women’s Cancer Initiative awareness. Bringing awareness to the disease with a high profile star is a great idea, but what bugs me is all the ads, and public service videos Eva does decked out in golf gear. Does she really golf? I didn’t think she did until I read about her golf tournament held last month in her home state of Texas. www.evasheroes.org

“Join Eva Longoria and her friends George Lopez, Ricardo Antonio Chavaria, Mario Lopez, and numerous other celebrities for a round of good golf and good will in supporting the beneficiaries of Eva’s Heroes at the beautiful and challenging Palmer Golf Course at The La Cantera Resort, nestled in the Texas Hill Country, just outside San Antonio”.

So did she golf or what? I want to see a video of her in action, I’m not convinced she’s a real golfer! I agree she’s a pretty hot chick so most men don’t care, but I want the golf truth! lol.

In this month’s Golf for Women magazine there was a page dedicated to 25 celebrity women golfers ranked by their handicap. I was very surprised to see who was #1? Anne Murray the singer has a handicap of 11. Shocker! Some other notable stars, Heather Locklear, Celine Dion, Cheryl Ladd, Belinda Carlisle, Angie Everhart, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Jane Seymour, just to name a few.

On another page in the magazine it lists all the celebrity golf tournaments and what celebrities will be playing in 2008. And speaking of Wisteria Lane it mentions that Teri Hatcher will be golfing at the Michael Douglas & Friends Celebrity Golf Tournament in 2008. Well maybe Eva can give Teri some diva golf tips! I watched that tournament last year on TV and I was quite impressed with Heather Locklear, Cheryl Ladd, and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Girls golf, get over it!

Pink Diva Blog Arrives

by admin on October 8, 2007

Why start a golf blog? I’m back playing golf after taking a break for a few years. I dusted off my clubs, took some lessons and now I’m obsessed with the sport. So much so that I decided to start a women’s golf apparel & jewelry online store! (www.pinkdivagolf.com) Once I looked at the current golf clothing options for women I realized there’s gotta better designs than this? A plain polo shirt is just too boring! More about that later…

I started this golf blog from the female perspective. And yes I’ve read some the women’s golf blogs and they are great to read. But we all have different experiences, and even rants & raves too. In addition, I’m still a rookie golfer and I’ve already had some funny (and not so funny) things happen to me on the course.

Here’s a funny (brief) story that happen a couple months ago. I was on the 3rd hole of a golf course in Roseville, CA called Rolling Greens. My first shot went a bit right and it landed into the tall grass on the edge of a lake. Luckily it didn’t go in the water but I had to go searching to find it. There it was about 2 inches from rolling into the water, whew! I used my 9 iron to hit it about 60 yards and boom it landed on the green! Wow I like this game! I bogey the hole – but hey for a rookie I’m pretty excited. I’m so excited I forget to put the flag back. Duh… As we walk to the 4th hole I hear a FOREEEE… wow those players behind us don’t hit very well? Yeah that’s because they had no idea where to hit the ball since there was no flag from the 3rd hole and they were guessing where to hit the ball. What can I say it was a rookie mistake. The players behind us were laughing and totally nice about my rookie mistake. Yeah I was embarrassed to say the least!

As this golf blog evolves I’ll post information on the game, lessons learned, funny golf stories, golf fashion and more. Check back often because girls golf, get over it!
