Have you heard? Mattel is coming out with Barbie golf clubs for girls ages 4-6. Yes, they are pink and will be available at Target for $40. I think this is great news! With 6 million women golfers in the world, finding a way to get girls involved in golf at early age is a good thing! Of course there are those who have many negative comments about this… why because they are pink? or because it brings more women golfers into the sport? Dunno. Goggle this subject and you’ll see what I mean. One person from a golf blog said they will gather cobwebs in the corner. Well in 10 years when they are interviewing the next girl golf superstar I hope she will say, “my passion for golf started when my parents bought me Barbie golf clubs at Christmas in 2007.” Girls Golf, Get Over It!

This is a great idea! I agree, pink is in, and girls DO golf, so “they” had better get over it! Who can forget Tiger Woods on the Mike Douglas Show at age two, with his little red cap and bag to match? We need a girl to do that now!…In pink, of course!

I have a 5 year old step-daughter for whom I’d been suggesting other youth sets to her Dad. He’d shrug them all off as “not yet, when she’s older…” But, when I called home to tell him that there was a set perfectly designed for his “Barbie-girl” he was happy to have THAT set for his darling! I think we’re adding another golfer to the family. And we don’t have to leave anyone behind when we hit the links. (Thank God for the local par 3 course!)

Update: Barbie Golf Clubs the HIT of the holiday! My 5 year old step-daughter absolutely loved them! She is so excited about getting to go golfing with Papa and Daddy. She raids my bucket of foam practice balls to putt around the living room. She is making a lot of those putts, too! She got all excited when I put a sock on her club. So, you know that a real club cover was not too far off, and she even picked out her own yarn in hot pink, of course! So if you see my girl on the pro circuit someday (or on her High School golf team) you’ll know where she got her start!
