This week the LPGA ladies will tee it up at the Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, PA for the 2010 U.S. Women’s Open. Can Cristie Kerr keep her #1 ranking with Ai Miyazato on her heels? As it turns out Cristie and Ai are pretty good friends – here’s an excerpt from a LPGA.com pre-interview:

Q. One of your rivals, Ai Miyazato from Japan, and as you are world ranking No. 1 player, what is Ai Miyazato to you? She does done very well this year.
CRISTIE KERR: “She’s done amazingly well. Everybody knew she was going to be great. I think she struggled to get comfortable. How many years on tour is this for her? Three, four? She’s actually one of my good friends, too. You know, we go up and we congratulate each other all the time when either of us wins. She’s one of the coolest people out here. She is just so nice; she’s so cute. She’s a cute personality, like a little cartoon character that is like a super hero in Japan, you know. We need more people like her out on tour, you know, that know the sportsmanship, that recognize the good play, that doesn’t matter if I win the tournament or she wins the tournament, we’re genuinely happy for each other. It’s great to have the rivalries on the course, but at the end of the day, it’s really about sportsmanship. She embodies all of that”.

Thank goddess the Open is on television this week (don’t get me started about the Jamie Farr Classic not being televised last week, not even taped delayed, geez. What’s an avid LPGA fan to do besides view the online LPGA scoreboard and refresh?). Na Yeon Choi was the winner of the Jamie Farr – but there was a 4 way playoff at the top. Christina Kim was in the playoff – read her blog about her experiences at the Jamie Farr.

So great that you posted their tweet reactions to the course…how cool!! Yea don’t get me started either on the Farr not being televised..yikes!!
Kirsten – thanks for your frequent posts on Pink Diva Golf! Many of the LPGA players didn’t even know the Jamie Farr wasn’t televised either… During the tournament they “tweeted” to their fans to watch it on T.V. – ugh what a disaster! And Golf Channel had NO video of the tournament and only announced the winner at the last 5 mins on Golf Central. I complain about LPGA events not being Live, but I’m sure the fans of the LPGA would have settled to tape delay instead of nothing.
Wow that is soooo crazy! the players thought it was being televised…..yikes ..I would have LOVED to have seen Christina Kim’s performance!
