Paula Creamer a.k.a. The Pink Panther wins the U.S. Women’s Open at Oakmont!  What a great week for USA Women’s golf and an inspirational story for all the young golfer girls out there.  Showing her perseverance, patience, and PINK passion to win Paula was a true champion through the entire tournament.  Still not 100% since her thumb injury and sometimes in pain Paula stayed calm and played within herself.  With this win, it’s the second straight major won by an American player after Cristie Kerr’s victory at the LPGA Championships.

“I always think an American should be on this U.S. Open trophy, said Paula.  It is the United States’ U.S. Open, so I do think that that’s an important thing. I really feel that, you know, I represent my country. I try to go out every day and play with pride.  There’s a lot of people out there that are keeping our country safe right now, and for me to be playing golf and having the trophy sitting next to me just makes things so much — it brings everything back down to earth in reality.”

“There is so much more going on, said Creamer. But I think it just kind of makes a statement to the other people who watch golf, you know, that an American did win. I really feel that the last couple of years we’ve had to elevate our games,” said Creamer about her compatriots. “Right now there’s a huge Asian influence on our tour, and we’ve proven in the last couple of months that the Americans are there. We are playing good golf.”

This is awesome for the USA to take back the U.S. Open title. And I’m hoping somewhere in the U.S. a young girl was watching the U.S. Open with her Mom (or Dad), and said I want to learn to golf and be just like Paula!  Even if it’s a ploy to wear some cute pink golf clothes – you never know – look at 15 year old Alexis Thompson who rocked the U.S. Open finishing tied for 12th place.

And one more thing…  Paula took to her Twitter account at about midnight on Sunday night – still filled with utter excitement and tweeted this:

@ThePCreamer I can’t believe it! 2010 U.S. Open Champ! Wow. What a great week! Oakmont was a great test of golf! Thank you to all the fans!

No thank you Paula, and I wish you a plethora of wins in the future!

After playing 18 holes yesterday we came home and watched the coverage of the US Womens Open on TV. Paula looked amazing and we were cheering for her the whole time.

Thanks for your comment Char! I was cheering for Paula too – it seemed like it was a destiny for her to win. Just a great time for Women’s US golf. I hope they can keep the momentum going!
